Indoor Rock Climbing

Indoor rock climbing is part and parcel of my personal training programmes. It is a great sport especially since it helps unplug from the daily grind and routines which can be monotonous and stressful at some level or point in time. One of the major benefits of indoor climbing is that it uses major muscle groups in your body making it a great whole body compound workout.

Climbing; whether indoor or outdoor, strengthens your hands and forearms, biceps, shoulders, neck, traps, upper back, lats, lower back, core, glutes, thighs and calves! Basically your entire body including cardiovascular systems. How it works is in the manner that you’ll use the large muscles in your arms and legs to pull your body up whilst your core to balance and maintain stability throughout the climb.

This past weekend we visited one of my favourite indoor rock climbing joint – Bluesky where we had a 2 hour session of combined training and indoor rock climbing. To say that we had one of the most memorable amazing time would be such an understatement 🙂 Fears were conquered especially the fear of heights, upper body strength was well challenged, adrenaline was rushing and gushing all over the place and did i mention how much excitement filled the air! It was absolutely a WOW experience.

Life lessons from rock climbing:
  • Feel good factor and bonding – It’s not unusual for climbers to find their tribe on or around the wall
  • Persistency and determination
  • Finding focus and planning
  • Problem solving
  • Goal setting
  • Keep learning mentality

Moments worth!
